Technology and Education

Vaughan M. Blaney
Director
TEFLA, BSc, BEd, MEd

Being an educator who strongly supports and encourages the use of technology in classrooms, I love reading the ideas and comments expressed by others regarding student learning and technology.  I have always held the view that it is essential for educators to ensure that they are well  aware of the most up-to-date advancements in technology; and for them to take time to determine how such technology can best be used in teaching.  Then - as fast as possible - educators should ensue that this technology becomes part of their students' educational experience.

The following are some wonderful quotations:

"Education is at a turning point."
- Howard Gardner

"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow."
- John Dewey

"Do not confine your children to your own learning, for they were born in another time."
- Chinese Proverb

"Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids to work together, the teacher is the most important."
- Bill Gates

"Technology can become the 'wings' that will allow the educational world to fly farther and faster than ever before - if we allow it."
- Jenny Arledge

Questions

Vaughan M. Blaney
Director

Questions are a powerful means of expressing our imagination.

  1. Where does the white go when the snow melts?
  2. Why has death never been 'evolved away'?
  3. If you try to fail, and you succeed, which have you done?
  4. Why is the sky blue?
  5. Where do thoughts go?
  6. How does blood travel up against gravity?
  7. If the universe is everything, and scientists say that the universe is expanding, what is it expanding into?
  8. What would life be like without questions?

Dream Big

Vaughan M. Blaney
Director

If there was ever a time to dare, to make a difference, to embark on something worth doing, IT IS NOW.  Not for any grand cause, necessarily... but, for something that tugs at your heart, something that's your inspiration, something that's your dream.

You owe it to yourself to make your days here count.  HAVE FUN. DIG DEEP. STRETCH HIGH. DREAM BIG.  Know, though, that things worth doing seldom come easy.  There will be good days. And, there will be bad days.  There will be times when you want to turn around, pack it up, and call it quits.  Those times tell you that you are pushing yourself, that you are not afraid to learn by trying.

PERSIST.  With an idea, determination, and the right tools, you can do great things.  Let your instincts, your intellect, and your heart, guide you.

TRUST. Believe in the incredible power...
of the human mind;
of doing something that makes a difference;
of working hard;
of laughing and hoping;
of lazy afternoons;
of lasting friends; and
of all the things that will cross your path.

The start of something new brings the hope of something great.  ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. There is only you.... and you will pass this way only once. Do it right.
